16 year old Alice Ford is a violist in the Indiana University String Academy Virtuosi. Originally a violinist, she began her studies at the age of 5, studying with Indiana University professor Dr. Brenda Brenner for five years before switching to viola at the age of 14. Since then, she has served as principal viola in the 2018 Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra Side-By-Side program and has played in master classes for notable violists such as Stephen Wyrczynski, Atar Arad, and Antoine Tamestit. In the summer of 2018, she won the second viola position in the IU Summer String Academy edition of the Rubens Consort Chamber Music Lab, where she performed Mendelssohn’s first string quintet alongside Sarah Kapustin and Roeland Jagers. She currently studies with Professor Mimi Zweig.
On Saturday, March 23rd, Alice will be performing Fantasia for Viola and Orchestra (1820) by Johann Nepomuk Hummel as a soloist with the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra.
We are very grateful to Hilliard Lyons for their ongoing sponsorship of our Youth Concerto Competition, which provides scholarships and performance opportunities to talented young musicians like Alice.
