The event of the Thanksgiving week is the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra’s annual “Holly Days” program, performed twice the evening after the turkeys have been enjoyed and digested, next Friday, Nov. 23. Place: Buskirk-Chumley Theater.
The early program at 5:30 is shorter and designed for families with children. The second, at 8, offers additional music. In terms of time, the pair serves as bookends to the downtown Canopy of Lights celebration on the Square.
Alejandro Gomez-Guillen conducts the programs. WFIU’s host of Soul Kitchen, Brother William Morris, narrates “’Twas the Night Before Christmas.” There will be sing-alongs of favorite carols; a snappy “We Wish You a Klezmer Christmas” medley, the radiant “Carol of the Bells,” Leroy Anderson’s “Sleigh Ride,” excerpts from “The Nutcracker” and “Amahl and the Night Visitors,” a “Christmas at the Movies” set and more.
